VINYL focuses on a special area of artistic creation in the 20th century. It shows in visual and acoustic presentation long-playing records of visual artists, reflecting the variety of sound and language experiments at the limits of music. With the extension of artistic expression into the field of sound and the visual forming of the record and its cover works of an innovative character and high aesthetic quality emerged. Artists from different trends of art created for their sound works the adequate covers.
The vinyl records acquire now-a-days a mythic character for the younger generation, for the older already a historical one. The exhibition is divided into different sections, ranging from the avant-garde movements of the twenties, like Dadaism and Futurism, over movements like Fluxus, Nouveau Réalisme, Pop Art, Zaj and Concept Art until most recent sound experiments. Often the recordings are the results of performances or other actions, thus documenting important artistic forms of creation of that period.

Elizaveta Morozova emphasizes social experimentations. For this she uses her own body to research and communicate her messages. In the work An Attempt to Overcome Glamour Morozova will examine the public’s receptiveness to various levels of communication. For this particular performance, the artist steps away from her usual self and body and encourages models to warmheartedly greet and embrace the viewers.

100 Years of Performance (Version #3, Moscow, June 2010)

100 Years traces the development of performance art over the past century providing a fascinating overview of some of the most significant performance art movements, happenings, and seminal works, from the Futurist Manifesto in 1909 until the present day. The exhibition includes work by Yayoi Kusama, Yoko Ono's Cut Piece (1965); Francis Alys' When Faith Moves Mountains (2002); Matthew Barney's Drawing Restraint (2005).

Francesco Vezzoli : Ballets Russes Italian Style

The artist presents an exhibition exploring his iconic performance piece with Lady Gaga and dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet. The highly visual performance took references from Le Bal (1929), the only one of the Ballets Russes’ performances that was designed by Balanchine in collaboration with an Italian artist, the Surrealist Giorgio de Chirico. Vezzoli collaborated with others to conceive every detail of the interior space, which included a piano artwork by Damien Hirst and costumes by Miuccia Prada, to create a “living, breathing artwork.” The elaborate work combined the different genres of video, petit-point embroidery, photography, and live performance.

AES+F: The Feast of Trimalchio

Russian artists AES+F (Tatiana Arzamasova, Lev Evzovich, Evgeny Svyatsky and Vladimir Fridkes) present their 9-channel video installation and a series of large-scale digital ‘paintings’ which create The Feast of Trimalchio. The installation envelops visitors
in a temporary hotel paradise, where they can enjoy the excesses of wealth, luxury and gluttony.
The people who inhabit this tropical and exotic hotel are either ‘masters’ or ‘servants’.
